In conclusion, pinning documents is a convenient way to expedite the process of finding documents that are continuously being worked on. The reason that the cached items are deleted is to prevent corruption and for security reasons. These updates (Windows automatic updates, security software updates, or using “cleaners”) can delete cached items where the jumplists/recent documents are saved. The other factor that can cause recent and pinned documents to go missing is updates.
The above articles shows corruption that occurs within jumplists. These lists are great for convenience but are not meant to be permanent locations of files, they can become corrupt and/or deleted. Recent documents and now pinned documents use what windows calls Jumplists, which are temporary storage locations of recently used applications and documents. This is an issue that has been a plague of Windows for some time now. Why recent documents and pinned documents disappear. Therefore if the file path is changed, (move the file from one folder to another) the shortcut of the pinned document is lost as where the system is looking for the file no longer exists, making the pinned document unable to open from the taskbar inside of the Office application open. This feature allows for users to "pin" recent opened documents to a task bar in the home screen in Excel, Word and Powerpoint.Īlthough it is convenient it should not be relayed upon.Įssentially what is happening when a document is pinned, a shortcut of the file location path is stored within a cache in Office. Pinning a recent document in Office 2013 is a great feature for ease of access and convenience.
